When is the best time to schedule a newborn session?
Newborn sessions are best done in the first 2 weeks of life, when they are still sleepy and flexible. Because I often book up to three months in advance, it's a good idea to book your newborn session during your second trimester. A tentative date will be scheduled, and can be adjusted once we see when baby actually arrives. Already close to your due date? Because newborns are photographed in the studio, we aren't dependent on the daylight, so we can sometimes squeeze in a newborn session if you inquire.
What do I need to know for my newborn session?
Newborn sessions are shot at our beautiful new studio in Mission Viejo. There, you will have access to a wide variety of props and accessories. Using our booking questionaire, I will discover your favorite and least favorite colors and looks, the theme of your nursery, etc., and use that information to design a newborn session catered just for you. Newborn sessions typically last 2-2.5 hours, during which the new parents can relax in our cozy front room, have a snack, and watch a little TV. Upon booking, detailed feeding and preparation instructions will be emailed to you the week of your session. Once we create your custom images, you can choose from a variety of packages that both allow you to display your new art, and keep the digital files for your archives.
Can I include siblings and parents in newborn sessions?
Of course! We encourage family members to participate in sessions-- you'll be glad you did! If there are very young siblings, we suggest that you have a spouse or grandparent bring them towards the end of the session. It can run a little long for a brand new big brother or sister, and we want baby to be able to sleep peacefully for their session. Once brother or sister does arrive, we have toys, books, and art supplies to keep them having fun while they wait.
What should I wear for my family or engagement session?
Coordinating outfits for family photos is never easy-- I always suggest that you choose four colors, including at least one or two neutrals, to avoid looking too matchy-matchy. Choose outfits that coordinate but still reflect each family member's personality. Layers and accessories often photograph well. For ideas, check out our Pinterest board, What to Wear.
Where will my outdoor session take place?
I photograph my clients at a wide variety of locations in Orange County-- if you are looking for something lush and green, rustic and earthy, beachy and airy, shimmery and ethereal... let me know what you envision and I can help find the perfect spot to create art with your family. I am able to travel to Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Diego counties for a $100 travel fee. Travel may not be available during busiest seasons, so please inquire.
